Our Internship Programme is designed for people who have completed Level 1 or Level 2 Marine Guide Training and want to gain hands-on experience in marine tourism, wildlife guiding, guest services, and conservation operations.
This 10–12 week programme gives you real guiding experience, professional development, and a direct pathway to employment with E-Ko or WCA partner operators worldwide.
As a volunteer or intern with one of the 120+ WCA Partners, your skills and attributes will be honed in a positive environment.

This ensures interns arrive with foundational knowledge of marine mammals, conservation principles, and responsible tourism — making your practical learning safer and more effective.
Duration: 10–12 Weeks (extendable to 24 weeks)
Schedule: ~40 hours per week (7:30am–5:30pm)
Location: Picton, New Zealand – Queen Charlotte Sound
Cost: FREE (Unpaid / Volunteer)
Value: Up to 50 wildlife tours included ($8,400 value)
The programme blends:
20 hours per week: Guest Services & Tourism Operations
20 hours per week: Trainee Marine Guide experience (approx. 4 tours/week)
You will learn by doing — on the water, on the dock, in the shop, with real guests, and alongside experienced marine guides.

You will be trained directly by MGT-certified instructors and qualified guides.
