This level also opens the pathway toward becoming a Course Director and launching your own Marine Guide Training franchise.

Delivering structured guide training sessions (Levels 1–3)
Assessing guide performance fairly and consistently

Using WCA checklist systems to ensure tour consistency and reduce risk

How the course runs

🗓️ How the Course Runs (Online)

This year, the Certified Guide Trainer (CGT) qualification can be completed 100% online.

Your training runs in conjunction with the Level 3 Certified Field Guide course. Each Field Guide week is recorded and delivered as a full webinar-style training experience, so Guide Trainer candidates can:

Attend live during an active Field Guide week, or
Complete the training later in their own time using the recorded sessions

This allows you to observe real training delivery, real assessments, and real guiding standards — without needing to be on-site.

Training commitment:
• Level 3 training week content: approximately 40 hours total
• Guide Trainer minimum requirement: commit to at least 25 hours of training material

Assessment is based on your ability to understand, apply, and deliver training standards — not just complete modules.

Travel and flexibility

Many guides experience seasonal income. As a Guide Trainer, you can:

Deliver training during off-season periods (including winter)
Support multiple operators or regions as a travelling trainer
Build a stable annual income through training delivery and assessment work
Create a flexible lifestyle that still stays connected to the ocean

Franchise and Course Director pathway

🚀 Pathway to Course Director & Franchise Ownership
A Course Director can be jointly qualified, or a franchise owner can operate by working with at least one experienced Guide Trainer.

That means:
• If you become a Guide Trainer, you can progress to Course Director and build your own training centre.
• If you prefer to teach and travel, you can partner with Course Directors and deliver training across regions.

This level is where marine guiding becomes a long-term professional career — and a business opportunity.

Entry requirements

🔒 Entry Requirements
To enrol at Level 5, you must have:

Level 4 – Certified Senior Marine Guide (CSMG) or equivalent experience
Strong English communication (safety, instruction, and assessment)
Verified guiding experience, references, and evidence submitted for assessment
Approval following an online interview where required
