I have always loved wildlife with a particular interest for the marine environment, Cetaceans have always been my favourite animals. I have a love of bird-watching and I find pelagic birds to be incredible animals (my favourite seabird has to be the gannet).
My passion for the natural world and a desire to help protect it led me to study Ecology and Conservation at university. This has broadened my understanding and knowledge of various environmental, ecological issues and associated processes as well as giving me a good grounding in zoology.
Whilst at university I took the option of professional work experience which led to me discovering the world of whale watching and marine guiding through a year of placements with marine guiding organisations in Scotland, Canada, The Azores and Iceland. During this time I was also able to develop and practice my bird identification skills. The experience of being outdoors on a regular basis and being able to see whales, dolphins and other marine life in their natural habitat as well as teaching others about wildlife and the environment confirmed immediately that marine guiding is what I would like to do for my ideal career. Having had several years’ of experience in customer service in retail and hospitality I am a confident and cheerful individual who can deliver a positive customer experience.
I hope that by pursuing a career as a marine guide I will be able to better inform others about marine life and the environment so that they will be inspired to help protect it.
